Why can I fall asleep on the couch feeling ridiculously sleepy, but when my head hits the pillow in bed I can't?
QuestionI don't think I have true insomnia, because I don't lie awake for hours on end. But for some reason my body needs a little screen time, no matter how tired I felt in the other room. And if I stay in the living room, I sleep without hesitation.
Does this happen to you? Does that make sense?
I hate it when my body immediately starts waking up the second I need to rest.
Right. I feel like my body is betraying me.
No idea, but my wife is like this. She has no trouble sleeping on our couch, but the second she comes to bed it's all tossing and turning, and then she goes back to the couch.
I used to get a bit upset about it, but I realised it just works best for her. I personally sleep better with her by my side, but I've taken my ego out of it and it's helped immensely.
It's weird, because mentally I feel better sleeping next to my partner, but my body just physically gives up on the couch, where the sleep is so deep it feels good.
It could be the firmness of the mattress, or needing the solid back and arm of the sofa in a position you can't get in a bed.
Hmm, that's true. My mattress is firm, but my couch is squishy.
Bro, this is the exact same thing that happens to me. I thought it only happened to me.
It is a shared experience, my friend.
A sleep scientist once told me that the harder you try to fall asleep, the harder it will be. Next time, try going to bed determined to stay awake and not fall asleep. I think you'll notice you get sleepy.
