Before and after making two simple changes
AdviceAt the end of 2024 I was trying everything, different products and routines, and honestly my skin just kept getting worse.
About 4 months ago I got tired and just stopped. I started drinking filtered water and saw a change in a few weeks. Then I was still getting a pimple here or there around my period, so I started drinking spearmint tea.
This isn't medical advice and I know everyone's skin is different, but for me less really was more. Just sharing in case someone else is struggling.
It's the spearmint tea. The PCOS community swears by it.
It did nothing for my skin.
I tried it, but I started having irregular cycles.
If I'd seen an ad for spearmint tea, it wouldn't have had as much impact as this post. I'm going to try it right away.
Just be careful. It gave me heart palpitations, and it can have other alarming side effects. Maybe talk to your doctor first. I took spearmint in capsule form.
So worth it. I drink it too, and it's the one thing that consistently makes a difference.
Do you drink the spearmint tea every day, or only around your cycle? How much? Asking because I hate the flavor, but I'm willing to give it a go if it's not a ridiculous amount of tea.
I drink one cup every night. I enjoy it and haven't had any obvious negative side effects.
I get hormonal acne, and I drink spearmint once a night for a few days before and during my period. It works so well.
Just so anyone reading knows: if you're breastfeeding, spearmint will tank your supply because of its hormonal effects.
Everyone saying it's the tea is funny to me, when you said it got better once you stopped the skincare. I've experienced the same thing. Every gentle acne product on the market would irritate me and break me out, and my skin cleared up right after a trip where I didn't even cleanse. It's not perfect, and new acne has started popping up.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It makes me feel less crazy.
I wonder if you were reacting to some of the products you were using. So it could be less about the filtered water and more that you stopped using the products that were causing your breakouts without you knowing.
Honestly, hard water was just killing my skin, so I get this.
I got similar results by changing my pillowcases three times a week.
