Flu for 5 days, and my skin looks amazing

Discussion

This post has no real purpose other than to start a chat about healthy skin habits and New Year's resolutions.

I know sugar is bad for my skin, yet I keep letting it pervade my diet. I know I need to drink more water, yet I don't do it enough.

I've had the flu for the past 5ish days and I'm on the mend today. I basically drank water nonstop and rested on the couch for 72 hours, with some food here and there: a banana, an apple, toast, a few bites of the nice dinner. I had one Italian ice, which is all sugar and, surprise surprise, my favorite treat.

I just finished staring at myself in the mirror after drying my hair, trying to figure out why I'm, like, gorgeous and glowing. Not trying to sound conceited. I hope people know what I mean when I say I'm having one of those days where I feel so beautiful.

Then I thought, hmm, maybe being super hydrated, getting a ton of sleep and having basically no junk food for 5 days contributed. I don't care if I'm diagnosing the glow right, I'm riding this wave into some early New Year's resolutions. Will report back in 6 months.

It's because your immune system is too busy getting rid of a virus to make pimples. A nice temporary side effect of being ill. I guess that's why they were always pining after sickly waifs back in the day.

I don't normally get pimples, so it's not that. I can't really explain what's different. It's almost like a photo filter in real life when I look in the mirror.

Pining after sickly waifs, lol.

They had that ethereal consumption glow.

Going through the exact same thing right now. I've been sick for days, haven't been able to eat anything, and my skin is perfection.

I don't think I've ever actually been able to rest this much while sick. The timing right at Christmas was perfect with what we had planned. I really did nothing and took care of myself first, instead of trying to mom on quarter power.

This has happened to me so many times. When I had mono almost two decades ago, granted I was 19, I went into the bathroom once and thought, I've actually never been more beautiful.

Same thing happened to me. I got the flu two weeks ago and looked so good and glowy. The effect has faded in the last two days and I'm mostly back to my regular haggard looking self. But the weirdest thing is that my melasma faded a lot while I was sick and hasn't come back yet, so that's been nice.

Did you keep up with your regular skincare routine? I've had a feeling that going off all products for a few days had a similar effect when I had a cold recently, but the things you mentioned make a lot of sense too.

My routine didn't change at all. It's basic: in the morning a water rinse, moisturizer and SPF, usually no makeup. At night a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, then tretinoin or a gentle overnight moisturizer.

I can relate to this. When I'm sick, all the fluids, soups, fruit and vegetables make my skin extremely glowy. Unfortunately it's impossible for me to keep that up for more than a couple of days at a time.

I'm hoping this will be the wake up call that keeps me on track.

Currently have the flu, doing similar things, and I'm breaking out like crazy.

I'm so sorry to say I laughed out loud when I read that. Feel better soon.

Respiratory infection for at least 2 weeks and I look terrible. Nothing like coughing so much you nearly throw up to keep you getting lots of restful beauty sleep.
