My partner is ruining my sleep

Vent

I love my partner a lot, but their snoring is so loud that it's almost impossible for me to fall asleep if they fall asleep before me. It's even worse if I wake up randomly to it. I just wish I knew how to ignore it.

I've tried earplugs and none of them have worked. I can still hear them as loud as day.

Same. I told him to do a sleep study, and after he got diagnosed with sleep apnea it got so much better once he started sleeping with his CPAP.

Snoring is often a symptom of sleep apnea, a breathing condition that can be dangerous. He should do a sleep study.

Sleep separately. This was the best relationship advice I ever got.

A separate bedroom has saved our marriage for this reason. Nothing has helped him, and I need my sleep.

Same here. Noise cancelling earbuds helped, but at some point I just decided to sleep in a different room. It's better for everyone when I'm well rested.

My husband's snoring used to shake the house, so I started using the guest room, desperate for a good night's sleep. Eventually that just turned into separate bedrooms. I was always self conscious when people noticed, as if we had a loveless marriage, which we definitely don't.

This year he lost weight and stopped snoring, but now I like having my own bedroom so much that I still sleep there. I'm just a happier and better person to live with when I get a great night's sleep.

I work in a lot of people's homes and can confirm so many people sleep in separate bedrooms. I know it's taboo. I see clients go to great lengths to hide it from me, and it makes me sad.

I sleep in my own room, separate from my spouse, and I sleep a solid 8 to 9 hours every night.

I'm happy to hear it's working for you.

My partner isn't happy about the idea of separate rooms either. He wants to sleep with me. But it's been very hard, because I'm the one with sleep issues and I really struggle to rest in general, let alone if he's snoring.

Use silicone earplugs. My wife snores as well, and they work really well.
